HR professionals not looking for love

Love
is not in the air in US HR departments, even in the run-up to Valentines day,
with the majority of HR professionals saying they wouldn’t get frisky with
colleagues.

The
Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and CareerJournal.com asked more
than 1,200 HR professionals and corporate executives if they were keen on
inter-office loving and almost three-quarters said no.

They
said workplace romances were dangerous and were something they would personally
avoid.

But,
at least HR professionals are more romantic than company bosses – 58 per cent
of executives said that workplace romances should be banned because of the
potential for retaliation if the romance ends, while only 12 percent of HR
professionals gave that reason.

Still,
there was one person who could see the other side. SHRM President and CEO,
Helen Drinan, said: “It’s natural that when people work together closely,
romantic feelings sometimes emerge.”

The
survey found that few organizations have policies that formally govern
workplace romance.
