The
partners of civil servants and members of parliament are set to gain the same
rights as married couples under a change in the law.
Reports
in The Independent claim that unmarried and homosexual couples will be entitled
to a widow’s or widower’s pension in a legal change which will take place
before October.
The
pension rights are said to be designed to demonstrate the acceptability of
relationships between gays, lesbians and unmarried couples and send out a
signal to the wider financial world.
