Government scheme tackles problem of teachers’ high workload

Education
and Skills Secretary Estelle Morris has unveiled a new scheme to help free up
teachers’ time and pioneer new ways of working.

The
measures are designed to give teachers more time and support, enabling them to
raise standards in the classroom. Initially the Government will fund 30 schools
with up to £4m to look at ways of tackling excessive workloads and how new ways
of working can be developed.

Each
school selected will receive a package of funding and support to help deal with
issues including IT, additional support staff, innovation, training and delivering
change.

The
30 pilot schools will have been selected by April and will include a broad
cross section of primary and secondary schools from around the country. The
projects will commence in September, running for the academic year, and the
lessons learned will be shared with schools nationwide.
