The
hotel and catering industry is the sector which is the most vulnerable to
business crime in the UK, according to research by the British Chambers of
Commerce.
More
than 80 per cent of hotels and caterers were victims of crime last year and
nearly half said their trade had been disrupted as a result.
The
most common crime against hotels and restaurants is burglary, with 40 per cent
of businesses having suffered break-ins.

Four
out of 10 businesses in the sector suffered damage to vehicles, 39 per cent
were victims of structural damage and 32 per cent were hit by thefts by
employees.
The
transport and retail sectors suffered the next highest levels of business crime
and financial services and agriculture were the areas least affected.
