RBS strike threatened over bank holiday

Royal Bank of Scotland staff are
being balloted on strike action north of the border over holiday entitlement in
the New Year.

Finance union Unifi claims the bank
is denying staff in Scotland the day off on 2 January and refusing to recognise
it as a Scottish bank holiday.

Up to 3,000 staff in Scotland are
being called to vote to strike on that day instead.

The ballot move follows tension
between the bank and unions over pay awards and the union is scathing of its
treatment of staff despite making a £4.4bn profit.

A spokesman
for RBS claimed the bank will treat 2 January like any other working day. It
will now only be opening selected branches on a limited basis
