Investors in people award under fire

Employers spend too much time achieving the Investors in
People (IIP) award and ignore the softer aspects of organisational development,
according to research published by the Open University Business School.

A survey of six large companies finds that this approach by
employers led to cynicism among managers and employees, who don’t believe the
initiative reflects the organisation’s cultural values.

The research warns that if there is too much emphasis on
winning the IIP award it becomes likely that management will focus on
satisfying the criteria for assessment and recognition, rather than dealing
with the issues that really impact on staff.
