Past comes back to haunt boss of CV staff vetting company

The managing director of CVvalidation.com, which carries out
checks on people who are applying for jobs, has had to defend his own past
following an article published in The Times.

Mark Castley, who set up the online staff vetting company,
was sentenced in 1991 to 15 months in Leyhill Prison in Wotton-under Edge,
Gloucestershire after being convicted of fraudulent trading and obtaining money
by deception.

A Mori poll commissioned by the company earlier this month
showed that one-in-five people questioned admitted exaggerating details on
their CVs and one-in-three job seekers had lied about qualifications or
previous work experience.

Speaking to Personnel Today Castley said, “This happened a
long time ago. It is nothing to do with CV validation. The offence was trading
while insolvent. We do not validate criminal records anyway.”
