The Society for Human Resource Management has released a new
Code of Ethical and Professional Standards.
The new code has been designed to help HR professionals
understand what they need to do to practice ethical human resource management
and be workplace leaders.
“The new code will serve as a valuable resource for
providing members with support and guidance in being ethical leaders within
their own organisations” said Helen Drinan, SHRM president and CEO.
Two teams of SHRM members and volunteer leaders wrote the
code with the help of the Ethics Resource Centre and SHRM staff. Members
participated through focus groups and individual interviews.
The code is part of an overall ethics initiative undertaken
by SHRM which includes focus groups, conference sessions, a toolkit and other
support aids which members can use to create and encourage ethics programs
within their own organisations.
