Travel agency launches HR morale boost

by Personnel Today 10 Apr 2001
by Personnel Today 10 Apr 2001

An online travel agency is running
an HR awareness week in May to boost morale among its dotcom staff.

Ebookers.com is
launching a series of initiatives to make staff aware of changes in HR policies
and procedures since its merger with its parent company Flightbookers.

HR director Terri
De’Anne and her HR team will present the policies and procedures to its 300
London-based staff.

During the week, the
HR team will hold a surgery to answer staff queries on policy and offer career
counselling.

De’Anne explained the
thinking behind the HR awareness week.

"It is very hard
to manage staff in this period of market volatility. We are trying to look at
how we can help the staff. We are very aware of developing staff skills, which
is why we support professional qualifications."

Among the HR
initiatives to be launched during May is an ebookers.com university. De’Anne
explained, "We want to keep the courses informal. These will run for five to
10 weeks and be about two hours a week in the evening."

The HR team will also
run short courses for supervisors and managers on appraisal training, absence
management and discipline and grievance procedures.
