An
agreement between London Underground and the ASLEF and RMT rail unions could
have averted the threat of further tube strikes.
The
unions have suspended the strikes after they last week struck and agreement
with London Underground to establish a commission to monitor safety standards.
The
committee will consist of 50 per cent trade union representatives and 50 per
cent London Underground Limited representatives.
Talks
continue to guarantee lifetime jobs for existing tube staff after its partial
privatisation.
ASLEF
and RMT have vowed to continue strike action if the talks fail – even though a
High Court ruling will require members taking part in future disputes to reveal
their pay grades and job locations.
