Siemens to create 700 jobs with new wind turbine plant in England

Siemens is to build a wind turbine manufacturing plant in England, creating 700 jobs.

The plant will be built at an as yet undisclosed site on the east or north-east coast, and will make Siemens the fourth foreign company to invest in the UK wind turbine market, after US firms GE and Clipper Windpower, and Japan’s Mitsubishi.

British company Vestas closed its Isle of Wight turbine plant last year, despite a £6m government handout.

Siemens, which already employs almost 17,000 staff in the UK, will invest £80m in the new plant.

Investment in offshore developments is expected to exceed £100bn, making the UK the world’s ‘wind capital’, according to the Telegraph.
