BBC makes big cuts in HR jobs

Ninety-nine HR jobs are be axed this year at the BBC in a cost-cutting exercise.

There will be a 22 per cent reduction in the 450 HR staff over the coming year. These reductions will occur at all levels.

Each department in the BBC has its own personnel staff but, under plans drawn up last September, human resources departments will be integrated. The cuts will leave the corporation with a 1:70 ratio of HR staff to other employees.

A spokesperson for the BBC said, “We want to avoid the need for compulsory redundancies.

“We hope that the 99 jobs will be lost through natural wastage.”
