UK self-service HR lagging behind Europe

The UK still lags behind other European countries in the use of intranet and Internet for self-service HR, according to a benchmarking survey by PriceWaterhouse Coopers (PWC).

Speaking at the Employee and Manager Self-Service HR conference in London, Jane Voisey of PWC said that only 18 per cent of survey participants used HR self-service in the UK, compared with 45 per cent in Nordic countries and 30 per cent in the Benelux region.

“The reluctance to use self-service HR by UK employers may be due to concerns over access to employees records with the possibility of hackers gaining access to employees’ personal details,” said Voisey.

Other findings of the 2000 Benchmarking survey revealed that the top four constraints for employers in implementing web-enabled HR were: time, availability and commitment (42 per cent); financial services (18 per cent); data access and security (33 per cent) and lack of internal skill and capacity (18 per cent).
