Bookmakers Ladbrokes are creating 1,000 jobs by the autumn
in anticipation of the increased trade through tax-free betting.
The majority of the new staff will be employed at the
company’s 1,900 high street shops.
Tax-free betting, to be introduced in October, is expected
to increase the industry’s turnover by 30 per cent, from its current level of
£7.3 billion.
Chris Bell, chief executive of Ladbrokes Worldwide,
commented, “Tax-free betting provides Ladbrokes with tremendous opportunities,
and we’re investing ahead to ensure we continue to provide our customers with
the best levels of service in the industry, whether they bet in the shops, via
telephone or the internet.”
