The
latest stage of a £27m programme to help local councils improve skills and
training was unveiled yesterday by local government minister Nick Raynsford.
He
announced a new framework for the capacity building programme, which is a
joint, three-year initiative between the Office of the deputy prime minister
and the Local Government Association.
The
programme aims to strengthen leadership skills, encourage best practice sharing
across councils, improve recruitment and retention processes and enhance
procurement procedures.
Raynsford
said that having a well-trained workforce played an important part in improving
local government performance.
