The
Government must work more closely with councils to make sure services are not
undermined by confusion over funding, according the Association of London
Government (ALG).
In a
new report, Investing in a Better Future, the ALG calls for a coherent and
effective funding strategy from the Treasury to maximise the benefits of
long-term investment in communities.
The
report also claims the Government should recognise the role of councils in
developing local solutions to local needs to make more efficient use of public
funding.
Sir
Robin Wales, chairman of the ALG, said: "It is only by making the long-term
commitment and getting better value for money from a properly co-ordinated
funding strategy that we will enjoy the full benefits of our investment [in
local government]."
