Army to consider work-life balance to recruit soldiers

The army
is drawing up proposals to stop regiments frequently moving to different army bases
in a bid to combat recruitment shortages.

secretary Geoff Hoon is considering plans to restrict the movement of soldiers
to a minimum of once every five years, allowing families to establish homes and
provide continuity at school for children.

The army
is still short of 8,000 troops mainly because many soldiers leave the armed
forces once they marry and have children.
