The Joy of Work? Jobs, happiness and you
Peter Warr and Guy Clapperton
Not many business books have references to both the Bible and the Beano on their first page, so this one made me sit up and concentrate.
Authors Warr and Clapperton begin by highlighting popular culture’s negative take on work.
They’re right. Whether or not we are conscious of it work is presented to us as something we have to do, rather than something we might enjoy doing.
They go on to analyse what we need to make us happy, and give advice on how to achieve it.
Quite an academic book, but certainly worth reading, and the case studies really bring it to life.
Good lists of recommended further reading, too.
