Brewery SABMiller expands HR director’s role to cover supply chain with new appointment

London-based brewery SABMiller group has appointed Tony van Kralingen as director of human resources and supply chain.

Currently the managing director and chairman for the brewer’s South African division, van Kralingen will replace the current group’s HR directorJohann Nel from 1 October. The role will now also oversee product delivery, according to Graham MacKay, SABMiller’s chief executive.

“We are fortunate in having a high calibre candidate like van Kralingen to take up this challenging new position,” said Mackay. “Tony’s career began in human resources and he has extensive experience of the discipline from his subsequent functional and line management roles.”

Van Kralingen joined the South African division in 1982 and has held a number of senior positions in the group including managing director and operations director.

Nel, who is retiring, has been the HR director with SABMiller since 2002.

“Johann Nel has made an exceptional contribution to SABMiller in the past six years and he leaves behind a strong human resource function that continues to serve as a core strategic business partner and competitive advantage for the group,” said MacKay.

The London Stock Exchange-listed SABMiller – short for Miller South African Breweries- employs nearly 70,000 staff worldwide, and contributed nearly a quarter of the overall group’s earnings in 2008.
