Cable & Wireless e-learning deal cuts training costs by 65%

Telecoms company Cable & Wireless has cut its training costs by 65% since completing the roll-out of a new e-learning contract covering 10,000 employees across the globe.

Under the deal with SkillSoft, the provider is supplying all generic e-learning content, managing and supporting all in-house and bespoke e-learning material, and administering Cable & Wireless’ instructor-led training.

The SkillSoft team has migrated all training from Cable & Wireless’ existing learning management system to SkillSoft’s learning portal, SkillPort, and branded the new system ‘iLeARN’.

This included transferring all instructor-led training, together with existing bespoke and in-house e-learning covering health and safety, compliance, systems and products.

At the same time, the entire SkillSoft portfolio of IT, management and business courses was uploaded onto iLeARN, accompanied by complementary skill simulations, job aids, test preps, e-books and reference material.

The migration also involved integration with SAP – Cable & Wireless’ HR software – and included the transfer of more than 40,000 historical training records.

Mike Booth, manager of e-learning services at Cable & Wireless, said: “By migrating our learning infrastructure over to SkillSoft and creating iLeARN, we have been able to reduce operating costs by 65%, while also providing a greatly enhanced model that meets the needs of our business.

“iLeARN is already getting a great response: around 25% of our UK-based colleagues used it within the first month alone, completing well over 1,000 hours of e-learning.”
