Vauxhall workers in Luton planned to demonstrate on Saturday
against General Motor’s decision to cease car production at the plant next
year.
The demonstration was part of a coordinated day of action
across GM’s European plants.

As Personnel Today went to press, unions anticipated 6,000
people would turn up, including workers, local residents, MPs and other
representatives from the British car industry.
On Thursday, a delegation of Luton workers and their
representatives will be in Zurich to demonstrate during the meeting of GM
Europe with the European Works Council Manufacturing Committee. The T&G
believes the meeting is to discuss whether GM Europe breached European rules on
employee consultation.
