The
Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) has urged employers to
review equality and diversity policies, before new discrimination laws come
into force at the start of December.
New
regulations outlawing both direct and indirect discrimination on the basis of
sexual orientation come into force on 1 December and on legislation on religion
and belief are introduced the following day.
The
CIPD believes there is still a great deal of ignorance about diversity and a
lack of appreciation of the benefits it can bring to business.
CIPD’s
special adviser on diversity Dianah Worman said: "Getting to grips with
the new legal obligations will help employers to stamp out the kind of
prejudices that stop organisations from accessing the talent they need."
