The
chairman of the Commission for Racial Equality (CRE) has promised to back
unions that expel British National Party (BNP) members.
Speaking
at the Trades Union Congress, Trevor Phillips said: "We will work with and
advise any union which takes the view that no union branch should be forced to
have a racist as a member.
"It
is the CRE’s job to promote race relations. Anyone who is a member of the BNP
is a racist. Anyone who gives money to the BNP is undermining good race
relations."
