Consumer
electronics retailer the Dixons Groups has predicted that it will create up to
1,400 new jobs in the current financial year.
The
retail group, which also operates PC World, Currys and the Link, said that the
majority of the new posts would be at its existing outlets, new stores and the
new national customer service centre based in Sheffield.
John
Clare, Dixons Group chief executive, made the prediction during the interim
results announcement and said that the new positions would help deliver
business growth and first-class customer service.
"New
job numbers will be higher than we expected at the beginning of the financial
year. These new positions reflect our renewed investment in in-store expertise,
after sales advice and delivery services, all of which are already delivering
better levels of customer satisfaction," he said.

New
jobs have also been created in the group’s distribution network because of
increased customer demand for seven-day deliveries. The growth in jobs is also
partly due to the firm’s expansion across Europe with new stores in Spain,
France, Eire and Scandinavia.
