The Department for Work and Pensions has announced the appointment of Lesley Strathie as chief executive of Jobcentre Plus.
Strathie has been acting chief executive of Jobcentre Plus since David Anderson’s departure in May. She will take up post with immediate effect.
The department said the appointment was made after an open competition and was approved by the prime minister with the agreement of the work and pensions secretary.
Strathie will report directly to Richard Mottram, permanent secretary at the Department for Work and Pensions.

He said Strathie had an excellent track record and considerable experience of the organisation and its predecessors. “She will provide the stability it needs at a time of significant change and challenges,” he added.
Mottram is soon to become the prime minister’s top security and intelligence adviser – Downing Street announced in September that he will chair Whitehall’s joint intelligence committee.
