Despite warnings of a global recession and continued predictions of gloom
and doom surrounding e-business, figures from UK-based Internet monitoring
company NetValue show that the number of secure connections made on e-commerce sites
grew steadily during the summer months. A secure connection is an indication
that confidential information is being exchanged, such as credit card details
in an online purchase. Between May and August this year, the number of home
Internet users making a secure connection to e-commerce sites increased by over
500,000 from 4,414 million unique users to 4,962 million.
