Almost
half the UK workforce would be unable to treat even the most minor injury in
the workplace, while 52 per cent don’t know where the first aid kit is kept.
These
startling findings are revealed in a new survey of 500 staff that shows the
lack of first aid awareness in the workplace.
Despite
people’s apathy at work, 83 per cent said they knew exactly where the first aid
kit was kept at home.
The
research, by supplier Safety First Aid, also shows that 43 per cent of
employees have never had any first aid training at all.
According
to the results, women are three times more likely than men to pay for first aid
training out of their own pocket.
The
HSE is currently running a campaign to raise awareness of safety in the
workplace and has re-issued two information packs on first aid advice.
