Today’s
jobseekers are lying about their advancing age to improve career prospects –
but employers believe mature candidates have the edge over younger applicants.
According
to new research from jobs board Totaljobs.com, one in three employers suspect a
candidate has lied about their age.
But
contrary to jobseekers’ beliefs, 59 per cent of employers said that age and
experience were more important than youth and enthusiasm.
Keith
Robinson, a director at Totaljobs, said: "There’s obviously a mismatch in
terms of employers’ policy and jobseekers perceptions. A balanced workforce
requires employees of all ages, and it is refreshing to see that employers
recognise this."
