Pay
settlements in the engineering and manufacturing sectors have remained constant
for the last three months of 2003 and the start of 2004.
The
latest figures from the manufacturing and engineering body EEF found that rises
have remained static at 2.3 per cent.
Over
the same period the number of pay freezes fell sharply from one in five of all
settlements to one in seven.
In
contrast, the number of companies that reported that they had deferred their
pay settlement during this period rose slightly from just over 2.5 per cent to
nearly 4 per cent.
