HR
diversity policies have a positive impact on profits and competitive edge,
claims a survey by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).
Nine
out of ten HR professionals in the US said their diversity policies help their
organisation to keep a competitive edge. Eighty-three per cent said that they
improve the culture of the organisation.
Over
half of the HR staff claim that diversity policies increase creativity, reduce
employee conflict and increase productivity.
Debra
Cohen, director of research at the SHRM said, “Many American HR professionals
in top companies said that the number of African American, Hispanic, female and
older employees in their workforce has increased over the past five years.
“These
top companies are taking advantage of the clear benefits of a diverse workforce
as a competitive edge. Most diversity programmes started in the early 1990s but
are growing rapidly.”
SHRM
responses included 121 HR professionals.
