Rail
freight firm EWS is taking legal action in a last-ditch attempt to halt two
48-hour strikes over jobs and conditions.
The
company is seeking an injunction in the High Court in London
to try to stop industrial action by 1,300 members of the Rail Maritime and
Transport Union (RMT).
The
workers are planning to walk out over the next two weekends in protest at
claims that the company is cutting jobs and changing terms and conditions.
The
company says the RMT has failed to comply with statutory requirements under the
Trade Union and Labour Relations Act 1992, in relation to balloting members for
strike action.
The
union has responded by stating it would defend its position.
