n Many employers are going beyond the call of duty by introducing more
family-friendly policies for employees than legislation requires, finds
research.
The CBI Employment Trends Survey 2002 shows more than two-thirds of the 940
companies surveyed offer staff at least one extra family-friendly work option
beyond statutory arrangements.
Emergency leave is provided by 40 per cent of those polled. Maternity pay
above the statutory minimum is offered by 27 per cent, and 26 per cent offer
extra maternity leave.
The study shows service companies – particularly those in the finance sector
– are far more likely to offer family-friendly policies beyond statutory
arrangements. The energy and water sector tends to offer more generous
family-friendly policies than companies within transport and communication.
