FSCS was set up by the Government under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 as a non-profit statutory body, independent of the financial services industry and regulators. FSCS is financed by compulsory levies on firms that are authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) or the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA). FSCS does not receive money from taxpayers, and does not charge customers for using its services. FSCS is accountable to the FCA and PRA.
