The
Government has issued a consultation document on the implementing of the EC
Agency Workers Directive.
It
appears the DTI intends to use an exemption so that the equal treatment
requirement need not apply to agency workers who work on a task or series of
tasks lasting less than six weeks.
If
the EU directive is introduced in its current form, it could mean temporary
staff will be entitled to the same pay and conditions as comparable permanent
employees.
The
full consultation document is available at www.dti.gov.uk/er/agency/directive.htm
