Highlighting the young-old divide

• Guru observed a distinct lack of grey hairs on display at an event at London’s Groucho Club to lament the lack of older people – that is, anyone over 27 – in the broadcasting industry.

Judging by some of the pre-lunch chitchat, age diversity in radio and TV has some way to go yet. One particularly off-message guest confessed to loving her job “because there are so many young people”.

Speaker Baroness Greengross was given a warm welcome but the mood turned thoughtful when the life peer wondered if anyone present would have got their jobs if they applied at the age of 55. The average age of the assembled? About 32.
