HR
will play an increasingly important role in the future, providing it can
demonstrate its business contribution, according to CIPD vice-president Lesley
James.
Speaking
today at Personnel Today and TMP Worldwide’s Boardroom HR conference in Birmingham,
James told delegates that HR will become more influential, but only if it can
show that it adds value.
She
said, "The profession will be much sought after in the future. CEOs will
take us much more seriously. We will be aligned with finance and the rest of
the business and we will be seen as a profession.
"The
way to do this is for HR to drive the corporate agenda. We must develop line
managers, but leave them to deliver.

"HR
must make sure it measures itself to prove that it is adding value. The way to
make sure you make your way to the top is to demonstrate you add value to the
bottom."
