The
Health and Safety Executive is offering small firms funding to help reduce the
number of accidents at work.
Companies
can apply for the funding to pay for up to half the cost of health and safety
training and access to mentoring, to a maximum of £1,000.
The
Employers’ Organisation for Local Government supports the scheme.
Steve
Sumner, health and safety consultant at the EOfLG, said: "Local
authorities only want to engage contractors Through Best Value who can meet a
minimum standard for health and safety management.
"Involvement
in this scheme will help firms meet that standard and increase their chances of
acceptance onto councils’ select tender lists.

"The
scheme will help firms cut accidents and save money but also increase their
opportunity for more local authority work."
