HSE launches guide to European Safety Week

The Health
and Safety Executive has launched an action pack for employers, timed to
coincide with European Safety Week (13-18 October).

The pack
contains a newsletter, mini CD-Rom, factsheets, leaflets and a poster focusing
on this year’s theme of dangerous substances.

The week is
designed to help employers that use potentially harmful chemicals come up with
initiatives to protect workers’ health.

Last year
around 200,000 action packs were sent out, with some of the best participants
honoured at national and regional awards ceremonies.

Every year
around 60,000 workers die from cancer brought on by occupational causes, while
an estimated 66,000 people contract skin diseases in the workplace.
