The
Government must play a greater role in halting the tide of long-term illness
and incapacity in the workforce, claims a report.
The
study by the Institute of Directors (IoD) states that with 700,000 new
claimants of incapacity benefit a year, employers need greater government
intervention to help tackle the problem of long-term absence.
The
research claims that a lack of effective NHS rehabilitation services are
putting the onus on employers too much.
However,
a survey of IoD members showed that only half of respondents provided an
occupational health service for employees.
