The
Communication Workers Union (CWU) has announced another one-day postal strike
as workers pursue a claim for an increase in London allowances.
The
union said the action will take place on the 16 October and will coincide with
strike action by local government workers represented by Unison.
Deputy
general secretary of the CWU Dave Ward said the question of London allowances
had become a capital-wide problem, and not just one affecting the postal
service.

"Prices
of accommodation, transport, food and entertainment are vastly higher in the
capital than in the rest of the country, and union members need levels of
London allowances that reflect that position," he said. "This action
is motivated not by greedy London, but by needy London."
