Most employers negotiate or consult with unions on pay issues, a survey by Personnel Today’s sister company IRS Employment Review has found.
All of the 54 organisations surveyed said they negotiated or consulted with unions on issues concerning hours and holidays.
Almost three-quarters of employers consulted with unions about redundancy issues and redeployment. About 70% also said they discussed discipline and grievance issues with unions.
Health and safety (H&S) also featured highly in the survey. Thirty-seven of the 54 organisations consult with unions on H&S issues, and around 10 employers negotiate with them.
But only 61% of employers said they consulted with unions on equality and diversity matters, and less than half (46%) on pension issues.
More than one-third (37%) said they informed unions about their pension policies, and about a quarter said they informed them about equality issues.
