Judges in Malawi have gone on strike over the government’s failure to replace their official vehicles.
The judges said they will not try another case until their fleet of 26 4×4 vehicles were exchanged for new ones – a promise made to them by the country’s former president Bakili Muluzi.

The judges said that the some of the cars were 10 years old and needed constant attention, so the strike would go on indefinitely until their demands are met.
The government has ordered five new Toyota Prados, but said it could not afford the Mercedes or BMWs that the judges had asked for.
