Management training

Management training: the cost

by Personnel Today 18 Feb 2010
by Personnel Today 18 Feb 2010

Management training and leadership development is not cheap. Course leader and trainer rates cost, according to the ILM, anything from £300 to £2,000 a day depending on their role and expertise.

If you have a residential event at an external venue, it will add about £100 per head per night to the cost. Capita’s three-day effective middle management course costs £1,300 per head. Ashorne Hill charges £825 for its three-day managing effectively course. Full bed and board is £110 a night.

If budgets are tight, using internal resources is a reasonable option. Decide what the training/development will cover and then find out if you have appropriate internal resources. Trainers, whether internal or external, must command respect and be able to deliver content.

If you have sufficient budget, bring in external experts/trainers for particular elements or even as guest speakers. They may do it for nothing. However, this is a last resort for management and leadership training where budgets are traditionally generous.
