Minister
for Local Government and the Regions Nick Raynsford has welcomed the Fire
Brigade Union’s decision to suspend the eight-day strike due to begin on
Wednesday. Raynsford reiterated that he believes the Bain review remains ‘key
to resolving the dispute’.
"We
welcome the Fire Brigade Union’s suspension of the eight-day strike due to
begin on Wednesday," he said. "We welcome any moves to resolve the
dispute – providing they are within the parameters set out by the Deputy Prime
Minister last week.
"The
independent review in progress under the chairmanship of Sir George Bain
remains key to resolving the dispute and will provide basis for future
modernised fire service."
