Ministers
are ready to approve a scheme which would see British passenger flights
patrolled by armed sky marshals.
The
Government may be ready to work with airlines to introduce the marshals, who
would be instructed to disarm hijackers.
Reports
in the Sunday Times claim the scheme was recommended in an unpublished report
by Sir John Wheeler, and could cost around £50m.

Employers
would be expected to help with the cost and, in the initial stages, undercover
police would be introduced to transatlantic flights.
