Rail is planning to cut around 900 jobs this week, prompting fears of
industrial action, according to newspaper reports.
The
company has called unions to meetings to outline the cuts, with the axe likely
to fall on middle management posts, according to The Times. The losses follow a
review of the company’s structure and new efficiency targets put into place.
A
spokesman for the company is quoted as saying: "The jobs are being lost
because there is no need for them in the new structure, some of them will be
compulsory."
