The
Inland Revenue has announced that new licenses for the security industry will
be tax deductible.
The
new Security Industry Act requires that everyone working in the industry will
soon need a licence. The new licences are valid for three years and cost £190,
and it had been feared that many people would leave the industry rather than
pay.
However,
the GMB union has said this news means employers in the industry now have no
excuse for not paying the fee for their workforce.
Allan
Black, GMB national official for the security industry, said: "We welcome
the fact that the Inland Revenue has listened to representations on behalf of
our members.
"Employers
now have no excuse for not paying up for their employees, and today’s
announcement makes it easier for them to do so as it cuts the overall cost.

"Good
employers will pay for the licensing of their workforce and the Inland Revenue
has now made it easier for them to do so. The cowboys who refuse will lose
their best employees and contracts as standards rise in the industry."
