There is no “one-size-fits-all” approach to outsourcing HR shared services, Sian Thomas, deputy director of NHS Employers, told delegates at a conference earlier this week.
“Each NHS organisation has different needs,” she said. “It’s not possible for one or two organisations to deliver services to lots of different NHS trusts.”
Speaking at the HR Shared Services in the NHS conference in London, Thomas said organisations needed to look at how the service would fit with the needs of the business and choose an outsourcing partner with a similar vision.
Many trusts were looking at a shared-services partner with a more commercial outlook, according to Thomas.
Caroline Wigley, director of organisational development at University Hospital Birmingham Foundation Trust, said organisations must be clear about the processes they were looking to outsource.
