An NHS trust HR director has been awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

Nigel Turner, director of HR at the Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust received the award for services to human resources management in the NHS.

Turner, who will retire from the trust next month when he turns 60, was delighted with the news.

“It’s a fantastic send-off,” he said. “I feel it is in recognition of my work at the Royal Free, supported by my team, for my role as joint chair of the NHS Staff Council, and also for my roles outside the NHS.”

Turner has been HR director at the Royal Free since the trust was set up in 1991. He built a new directorate to meet the trust’s needs, created a framework for positive industrial relations and equal opportunities, and developed a HR strategy to help staff achieve the trust’s objectives.

Earlier this year, Helen Giles, HR director at homelessness charity Broadway was awarded an OBE for services to homeless people.
