The
number of union learning representatives active in UK workplaces has increased
by 45 per cent over the past year.
New
figures show there are now more than
6,500 learning reps promoting training, up from 4,500 in a year.
TUC
general secretary Brendan Barber said: "The TUC-trained union learning
reps are working hard with employers and their workmates to try to turn every
shop, factory and office into a hive of learning activity.
"With
2,000 more reps out there pushing the learning agenda forward, unions are
making a valuable contribution towards improving the skills of UK workers.

"Their
employers have much to thank them for – identifying skills gaps within
organisations and bringing on the more reluctant learners is something the
learning reps are proving more than capable of doing."
